Can Iowa's tough defense contain the triple option attack of Georgia Tech tonight in the Orange Bowl
The 10th Ranked Iowa Hawkeyes (10-2) take on the 9th ranked (11-2) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Orange Bowl. The Yellow Jackets are favored by -5.5 and the over under is set at 51.5. The Hawkeyes have only lost to Ohio St and Northwestern while G.T. only 2 losses came to Georgia and Miami. Bet the Orange Bowl game at Bodog.com.
Iowa is putting up 23.1 points per game on offense, and their tough defense is only giving up 15.5 ppg. Georgia Tech averages 35.3 ppg and the defense gives up 24.8 ppg. Both teams are positive in the turnover ratio at +3 Iowa, +7 Georgia Tech. The big difference is the rushing/passing game. The yellow jackets average an astounding 307.2 yards a game and only 135.5 yards in the air. Iowa has a modest 109.4 yards rushing and 221.3 yards passing per game. The mathematical prediction for the game is Georgia Tech 27 Iowa 24. Will Iowa cover the +5.5 spread, bet the Orange Bowl underdog at Bodog.com.
G.T. QB Josh Nesbitt went 9 for 16 for 136 yards and 1 touchdown in their 2nd victory this season agains Clemson 39-34. It is no secret that the Yellow Jackets run the ball. RB Jonathon Dwyer pounded out 110 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. WR Demaryius Thomas caught 2 passes for 77 yards and 1 touchdown. The story of the Georgia Tech team is the triple option offense that averages a stunningn 300+ yards a game. Will the triple option stun the Big 10 Iowa’s defense? Bet the Orange Bowl favorites at Bodog.com.
As for the Hawkeyes, their superstar QB Ricky Stanzi returns after missing 2 1/2 months due to an ankle injury that required surgery. The core of the Iowa team has been their hard hitting, fast defense. Teams have not been able to score much more than 2 touchdowns against them.
Prediction: After missing last night, which was defense vs offense. I am going to stick to the same formula. Defenses win games. Although it is tempting after last nights loss, to convert over to the offense. I think Iowa keeps this one close, whether or not they win, it should be within the 5.5 spread. I like the Hawkeyes in this one. If the game doesn’t get out of hand, Iowa’s defense should keep this game under.
