One of the more interesting 5 vs. 12 games in the NCAA Tournament takes place on Thursday when UTEP faces Butler. The Bulldogs are normally the underdog in this type of matchup but not this time as they are the fifth-seeded team. Butler is ranked 12th in the country and they have won 20 straight games overall. They will face a UTEP team that won the Conference USA regular season title but fell in the title game to Houston.

Butler is a 2.5 point favorite with a total of 130 at SBG Global.

Butler is led by Horizon League Player of the Year, Matt Howard who led the team in scoring and rebounding. Now, though, the task at hand is Butler.” The Bulldogs are still not getting much respect though as only a 2.5 point favorite. “We haven’t lost since December, it has us really confident, believing that we can go out and play with anybody,” Butler’s Willie Veasley said. “Of course we know that with each game that we have to heighten our focus, that’s going to be a key going into this tournament.”

UTEP is led by junior point guard Randy Culpepper who averages 18 points per game. The Miners also have former Louisville player Derrick Caracter who averaged 13.8 points per game this college basketball betting season. UTEP had won 16 straight before losing the Conference USA title game against Houston.

An intriguing game in the NCAA Tournament will be played on Thursday evening as 11th-seeded Washington faces 6th-seeded Marquette. This is the third straight year Marquette has been a number six seed in the NCAA tournament. Two years ago they beat 11th-seeded Kentucky in the first round before losing to third-seeded Stanford in overtime in the second round. Last year, Marquette beat 11th-seeded Utah State and lost to third-seeded Missouri in the second round. It is the fifth straight year the Eagles have made the tournament.

Not much was expected of Marquette this season since they lost three starters but the Eagles really came together late in the season winning 11 of their last 14 games.  Fourth-ranked Kentucky doesn’t get much time to enjoy last Saturday’s win over North Carolina as they face 12^th-ranked Connecticut on Wednesday in the SEC/Big East Challenge at Madison Square Garden in New York.  The Wildcats are coming off a 68-66 win over the Tar Heels even though they nearly blew a 19-point lead.  Part of the reason they struggled in the second half was because superstar guard John Wall developed leg cramps.  He missed some time in the second half and he wasn’t the same when he returned.  “We are not the same with John Wall hurt,” said head coach John Calipari. “But we have to be. What if he is in foul trouble or hurt? We have to figure out how to win anyway.”

 Kentucky will need Wall at full strength if they expect to beat Connecticut on Wednesday in a game that can be seen on ESPN. Wall was just happy the team got a win. “When coach splits up the teams in practice and I am not out there, everybody just has to work hard and forget that I am not out there,” Wall said, “We have so many talented players. I appreciate that my teammates want me out there, but when I am not they have more than enough talent to keep rolling.”

 Connecticut is coming off an unimpressive 79-73 win over Harvard on Sunday.  Head coach Jim Calhoun was not pleased with his bench play as the reserves scored a total of just four points and had only three rebounds, and one assist. “We don’t have a bench, we’re faking the bench by bringing Gavin off it,” UConn coach Jim Calhoun said. “We don’t have a bench right now and it’s causing problems.”  Since the Huskies want to play at a fast pace, no bench is a huge problem. Three of their starters are averaging at least 34 minutes per game.
