One of the more interesting 5 vs. 12 games in the NCAA Tournament takes place on Thursday when UTEP faces Butler. The Bulldogs are normally the underdog in this type of matchup but not this time as they are the fifth-seeded team. Butler is ranked 12th in the country and they have won 20 straight games overall. They will face a UTEP team that won the Conference USA regular season title but fell in the title game to Houston.

Butler is a 2.5 point favorite with a total of 130 at SBG Global.

Butler is led by Horizon League Player of the Year, Matt Howard who led the team in scoring and rebounding. The Bulldogs were the best road team in the country this season and road victories usually translate to NCAA Betting Tournament success. “Whoooo, are they good,” UTEP coach Tony Barbee said, “They are a talented team and they can beat you in a lot of ways. Now, though, the task at hand is Butler.” The Bulldogs are still not getting much respect though as only a 2.5 point favorite. “We haven’t lost since December, it has us really confident, believing that we can go out and play with anybody,” Butler’s Willie Veasley said. “Of course we know that with each game that we have to heighten our focus, that’s going to be a key going into this tournament.”

UTEP is led by junior point guard Randy Culpepper who averages 18 points per game. The Miners also have former Louisville player Derrick Caracter who averaged 13.8 points per game this college basketball betting season. UTEP had won 16 straight before losing the Conference USA title game against Houston.

An intriguing game in the NCAA Tournament will be played on Thursday evening as 11th-seeded Washington faces 6th-seeded Marquette. This is the third straight year Marquette has been a number six seed in the NCAA tournament. Two years ago they beat 11th-seeded Kentucky in the first round before losing to third-seeded Stanford in overtime in the second round. Last year, Marquette beat 11th-seeded Utah State and lost to third-seeded Missouri in the second round. It is the fifth straight year the Eagles have made the tournament.

Not much was expected of Marquette this season since they lost three starters but the Eagles really came together late in the season winning 11 of their last 14 games. The Eagles don’t have much of a bench so the starters are a big key. Marquette had some nice wins this year over Villanova, Georgetown and Xavier so they are capable of making a little run in the NCAA Tournament. Lazar Hayward is their big scorer. He was named second team All-Big East this college basketball betting season. Marquette is a good shooting team, especially from long range. The Huskies had what could be considered a disappointing regular season but they made up for it by winning the Pac-10 Tournament. Washington has some players who can make an impact including Quincy Pondexter who leads the team in scoring.

Jimmie Johnson looks to win for the third straight week as NASCAR odds moves to Atlanta for the Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday. The statistics point to Johnson having another good week as he has the best driver rating in Atlanta and the most laps in the Top 15. He has three wins, nine top fives and 11 top ten finishes in 17 starts in Atlanta. He is the 4-1 favorite at SBG Global.

If Johnson doesn’t win then it could be time for Jeff Gordon to finally visit the winner’s circle. Gordon would have won last week had he taken four tires instead of two. He has four wins, 14 Top Fives and 23 Top 10s in 35 Atlanta races. He is the co-second choice at 7-1 at SBG Global. Mark Martin is also 7-1 although it is puzzling as to why, since he has never had much success in Atlanta.

Kevin Harvick leads the point standings after three races and he was second and fourth in the two Atlanta races last year. He is 9-1 at SBG along with Kyle Busch. All of the other drivers have double-digit Nascar odds. One of those drivers is Dale Earnhardt Jr. He has eight Top Fives and 10 Top 10’s in 21 Atlanta starts. Owner Rick Hendrick believes that the Jr. team is much better this season. “I feel they’ve made a ton of improvement on that team and I think we’re going to have a really good year,” Rick Hendrick said. Jr. is a 17-1 longshot at SBG.

Another contender in Atlanta this week could be Carl Edwards at 13-1. He has started the 2010 season slowly but he has three wins, six Top Fives and eight Top 10s in Atlanta.

Last year’s winner of this race was Kurt Busch while Jeff Gordon finished second. Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Brian Vickers rounded out the Top 5. There were 11 caution flags last year and the race finished in just under four hours. Kurt Busch led for 234 laps in his Nascar betting win last year. His brother Kyle won the race two years ago while Jimmie Johnson won in 2007. The pole sitter has won this race 10 times although it didn’t work out last year for Mark Martin who finished 31st.

If you are looking for big longshot then Ryan Newman might be worth a shot since he won the pole every year in both Atlanta races from 2003 through 2005. Newman is 37-1 in NASCAR odds.
